Being so famous as it is, we actually saved Kuta as our last destination in our 1-week vacation in Bali. After spending 2 nights in the laid-back Sanur, it was finally time to hit into what has always been considered the most ‘happening’ area in Bali – the epicenter of all the excitement, night entertainment and beach life which is what Bali is most famous for.

After being dumped by the taxi driver somewhere along a backstreet in the Legian area (don’t not believe if a taxi driver says Legian is far from Kuta and hence extra charge – they are located so much next to each other you can’t even tell if you’re in Legian or Kuta), we had to ask around before we managed to locate our hotel, a very budget accommodation lodge called Sayang Maha Mertha. The Monkey Business in Ulu Watu

So… Having visited just about every attraction in Ubud area and beyond, we had at least two more major attractions that had yet to be ticked off the list – The temple on the cliff in Uluwatu and the one that perched on a tiny island (or bay or whatever you call it) in Tanah Lot.My travel partner Ulai aka Borneo Trekker seemed to be more excited about being on the edge of a cliff then on an island so off to Uluwatu we were headed to. The Magnificent Besakih Temple and Hypnotic Kecak Dance

Besakih Temple at the foothill of Mount Agung is a place not to be missed when you come to Bali. It is a very interesting place to visit and even more interesting is how the people there rip the visitors off out of something that is supposedly – holy.

It all started even way before we arrived there. The driver told us an entry to the temple would require us to be in a FULL Balinese costume. Being to countries like Vietnam and Thailand, I knew for sure how drivers or tour guides gain some profit by bringing tourists to certain places – usually souvenir shops – where they’ll get certain percentage of commission from all the stuffs bought by these tourists (that they took there).
