Neither me nor my travel partner Audrey was aware of its existence and thanks God our newly found friends from Italy told us about it. Otherwise, we wouldn\u2019t know what we have missed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>\u201dSomebody told us about Temple of the Sun when we were in Varanasi. He told us how beautiful it is there and that we must go there when we come to Jaipur\u201d,<\/em> Erica the wife said in her ever-appealing tone of voice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So \u2013 MUST-GO it was, we arranged to go there with them the next morning. Of course, it\u2019s always good to ask the receptionist on how to go to a place that you\u2019re heading to for the first time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060454.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2370\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Consulting the receptionist\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060454.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Temple of the Sun, as we\u2019d come to find out is located very much on the outskirt of Jaipur city. Since we were like somewhere in the middle and Jaipur is such a sprawling city, it would consume too much of our time and energy if we went there on foot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060458.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2371\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Walking towards tuk tuk before sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060458.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">IN the end, Tuk Tuk was still the best option.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060459.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2372\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"On the Tuk Tuk towards Sun Temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060459.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Tuk Tuk could have taken us closer to the temple but since it was a pre-negotiated fare, the driver was more than happy to drop us off where we wanted it. The receptionist told us that we shall ask to be dropped off at the gate so at the gate it was that we disembarked ourselves from the Tuk Tuk. Little did we know that there was another gate closer to the temple. Erkk.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060461.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2373\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"towards the gate before sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060461.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Walking closer to the temple, my attention was drawn to a donkey in the middle of a road \u2013 which appeared to be hollering and crying as if she had just lost something so precious to her or something. She was running erratically around &#8211; almost uncontrollably- and it was obvious that she was looking for something that was so dear to her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060462.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2374\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"hollering donkey b4 sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060462.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">True enough, it wasn\u2019t long before another donkey \u2013 probably a sibling or something \u2013 came running toward her and for a moment I just stood there witnessing something of a re-union in such a heart-wrenching fashion. Even without hands, they appeared to be hugging to each other. Seriously, I could have cried right there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060463.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2375\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Reunion of donkeys before sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060463.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">You know you\u2019re nearing a temple when you see all kinds of religious processions and all and I couldn\u2019t help but questioning why that one guy over there has the privilege of wearing sandals while the rest have to walk bare-footed. (Not that it mattered to me though. Just a pure curiosity. LOL).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060466.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2376\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Procession at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060466.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If there was one place in Jaipur where you could see all kinds of animals living harmoniously together \u2013 it\u2019d be The Sun Temple.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060534.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2377\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"animals harmoniously together at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060534.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And of course, \u2018animals living harmoniously together\u2019 means you can\u2019t let yourself be carried too much away by the beauty of the surrounding. Otherwise\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060537.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2378\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"dung on the track to sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060537.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There&#8217;s no way of telling when you&#8217;ll find a water tap again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060478.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2379\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Water pump at the base of Sun Temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060478.jpg\" width=\"297\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I might have developed some kind of hatred for monkeys especially after <a title=\"Business Monkey at Ulu Watu\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/?p=1382\" target=\"_blank\">I went to <strong>Uluwatu in Bali<\/strong><\/a> a few months ago (grrrrr!) but the ones that they\u2019ve got here at the Temple of the Sun were surprisingly so disciplined and well-mannered you wouldn\u2019t really feel intimidated being around them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060503.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2380\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"monkeys at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060503.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They are not even choosy when it comes to food. I don\u2019t know what song it was but there was something \u2018spiritual\u2019 about it that brought a wave of goosebumps all over the back my neck. \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060524.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2384\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"Singing ladies at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060524.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having reached the top of the hill (<em>or rather<\/em> somewhere nearby the top), the journey hadn\u2019t quite come to its end just yet. In fact, the trail would lead you to the descending part of it before you can reach the\u00a0 Holy temple of Galtaji somewhere at the bottom of the beautiful valley.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060549.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2385\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"the beautiful valley at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060549.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thanks God it was one of those days when the sun seemed so tolerant to the \u2018waxy\u2019 us. \u00a0It was cloudy and weather was just fine and if there was anything so challenging about the hiking, it\u2019d be the physical challenges of going up against the elevation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060563.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2386\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"reaaching at the bottom of the valley\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060563.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Right after the entrance gate you\u2019d see a pool of some kind, probably the place where the Hindus come to purify themselves up with the water from it. With rubbish floating on its surface like that, it did me little wonder as to why nobody seemed to be doing just that at the pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060571.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2387\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"pool with rubbish at sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060571.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In fact, they do it somewhere else \u2013 at a pool that you\u2019d see when you walk a little bit further down the stairs from there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060575.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2388\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"hindus bathing at sun temple 1\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060575.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was a magical sight really. I\u2019ve heard a lot about Hindu practitioners purifying themselves in the waters of <strong>Ganges River<\/strong> and although this one here might not be as compelling as the famous one in <strong>Varanasi <\/strong>(soon baby\u2026 soon\u2026), it was good to see at least a bunch of Hindu practitioners doing just about the same sacred ritual here in Jaipur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060586.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2389\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"hindus bathing at the pool at sun temple 2\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060586.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Of course, doing something religious for a ritual like that, I had expected them to be deeply immersed in their prayer, probably with eyes closed in such a meditative manner and all \u2013 but NO. What I saw was a bunch of people taking a bath at a pool in more of a picnic-like manner. They seemed to be having so much fun I had to brace against the idea of slipping right out of my clothes and joining them in the pool.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060681.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2390\" style=\"border: 3px solid gray; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;\" title=\"picnic like bathing at the pool sun temple\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jipp-world.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/P1060681.jpg\" width=\"440\" height=\"293\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That was probably the unisex section of the pool. It is quite poorly maintained and that makes it look like it is well past its glorious time now. Going back to where we came in from had to be the most challenging part.
